Apply for Air Conditioning (AC) Distribution program
Residents who live within Bloomington city limits, meet the low-income criteria and have a medical condition which increases their risk of a heat-related illness are eligible to receive one free window air conditioning unit with free installation.
How to apply

City Resident Verification
Applicants must provide documentation that they are a City of Bloomington resident. Acceptable documentation includes a copy of a valid driver’s license, current rental agreement, or latest utility bill.

Income Verification
In order to demonstrate low-income eligibility, applicants are required to provide a copy of one of the following forms of documentation:
- Proof of Enrollment in SNAP
- Proof of Enrollment in LIHEAP
- Proof of Enrollment in Bloomington’s Workforce Rental Housing Program
- Pay stubs for the last 6 months
- Previous year’s tax return

Medical Self-Attestation
Applicants will need to read and agree to a self-attestation, indicating a good faith attestment that they fall within the low-income thresholds and that they or someone living in their home has at least one of the following conditions that increase their risk for a heat-related illness:
- Respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and renal disease and/or
- Those who take some medications (such as some antidepressants, diuretics, and beta-blockers) and chemotherapy treatments taken for a chronic illnesses may increase an individual’s sensitivity to heat by interfering with the body’s ability to regulate temperature, fluids, or electrolytes.

Renters
If you rent your home and your AC system is not working properly, please ask your landlord to fix the system. If an AC system is not provided you will need to have your landlord complete a Landlord Agreement Form which states that they agree to have the AC window unit installed and that the AC window unit belongs to you.
